We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Communications Technician at South Metro Depot, Forrestdale on a Permanent Full-Time basis.


About this role


As the Senior Communications Technician you will be required to provide expert technical leadership & support and to apply high level telecommunications knowledge and skills gained, in the maintenance, operations, installation, commissioning and testing of Western Power telecommunications facilities & provide expert technical advice and guidance.  Provide, develop, design and research communications activities, prepare new product assessment reports and or conduct training and competency evaluations of field-based employees as required.


About you


We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:


  • Advanced Diploma in Electrotechnology / Electronics / Telecommunications or Radio / telecommunications Trade Certificate
  • At least 15 + years extensive & broad technical experience in a telecommunications or related industry with comprehensive and broad knowledge
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the system design for two or more of the following.
    • Fixed & Mobile Radio (VHF-UHF);
    • Cable Carrier Systems (Metallic/Optical Fiber);
    • MUX Networks;
    • Ethernet Networks
    • High Speed Digital Transmission;
    • Power Line Carrier systems;
    • Teleprotection systems;
    • Supervisory systems.
    • Database systems
  • Teleprotection and Supervisory systems.
  • Database systems
  • Knowledge of Telecommunications NMS.
  • Demonstrated ability in applying continuous improvement methodologies
  • Must have excellent report writing skills and be able to communicate at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide technical leadership
  • Demonstrated ability in applying continuous improvement methodologies
  • Proven experience in managing high level negotiations and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide technical leadership
  • Good communication skills and customer focus.
